Same tiles kitchen and patio?

We are doing our outside area and our ground flooring (townhouse). We've decided on tiles for the ground floor and someone suggested we put the same tiles outside in our very small patio.

Has anyone seen this done? Is it a bit OTT? (it's a very small patio)

We are planning to do this when we get the interior of our extension finished. It's a fairly small patio and dh thinks it'll look amazing... I think anything would be better than the churned up mud and cracked slabs we have at the moment!

I've seen it done in the Mediterranean.
Have you found some tiles suitable for both?

The alternative would be wood inside and out?

It's very smart if you choose a simple largish format flag. I've recommended it for a few developments. The uniform appearance makes the patio look better & less bitty. Be careful not all tiles are suitable for outside though and can crack in frost.

In our house we have the same tiles upstairs landing and outside patio. The people that did this are sadly arses as they are indoor specific terracotta tiles and given here in Austria it regularly gets proper-cold in winter, most of the outside tiles are shattering/ already shattered. They aren't even nice tiles so all of it is on the "redo when funds allow" list.

Make sure the tiles you choose are suitable for outside and will survive the weathering.

I was about to say what C4ro and wonkylegs did - make sure the tiles are frost proof and non slip. It can look amazing.

I think it looks better with a large format/sized tile - at least 450x450 or 300x600 flag = flagstone, not necessarily a traditional rough cut flagstone but something substantial enough to be used outside.

I promise it can look nice on normal houses too.

We've got large limestone flagstones in the kitchen and they do the same tile in outdoor stone (I guess it just has a different coating on it). It does cost quite a bit more than I anticipated but will make the outdoor more of an extension of indoors, which was our aim

Got friends who have done this. One with Indian flag, the other with a white poured concrete floor. Both look really good (the latter is in a townhouse btw)

yes great idea if you buy a product that's designed to use indoors and out - or that has a thicker equivalent for out door use ! be careful of using indoor stuff outdoors as not only can it crack it can be extremely slippery too !
