How much do professional painters cost?

We are selling our Victorian terrace and I think the hallway and original front door could do with a lick of paint. We don't have time to do it ourselves and I'm considering getting in a painter and decorator to do it. I've never used one before - does anyone have any idea how much it would be in the region of to paint a hallway and front door? Thanks.

Depends how big the hallway is and what condition it is in.
We spend £150-200 per man-day plus cost of paint. Our large and awkward hallway that needed lots of filling of little cracks and holes took three days for ceiling, walls and woodwork (not including internal doors). Our decorator works fast.

Not entirely sure, but I'd rather get a price for the job than a day rate, if I was on a day rate I wouldn't be in to much of a hurry to finish the job.

Is it really a 'lick of paint' or does it need cleaning/stripping, making good (filling, sanding etc) and then walls painting, skirting painting, door frames painting etc? And how big is your terrace? Tiny or huuuge? Get a personal recommendation.

It's a medium sized 2 bed terrace. It's really tatty! Currently painted white which looks ok but has tons of scuffs round the door frames and on skirting boards. Probably take a man a couple of days at least. Thanks for your replies.
I'm not sure whether just to leave it as the whole house really needs repainting and just let buyers factor it in.

If the market is as buoyant as it is here (houses going for asking price the day they appear on rightmove) then I would save your money!

Don't bother if you think it will sell quickly. There is no point.

I sold ours with tatty paintwork in a day!

Though just had hall, stairs and landing done in new house and was £650 inc paint. Though this included 6 internal doors and took 4 days.

I think you need to look at other similar properties for sale, see what condition and price they are. Bear in mind that if someone comes along accepting your house as a bit of a project, even if only decorating, they will expect to pay less, if other than your hallway your house is in good condition i think it would be worth having it decorated as a purchaser will want to take thousands off an asking price, when you could spend a few hundred getting it far more presentable!?
