Good stain for stripped pitch pine floor.

I have started stripping the floor in a reception room, it is old pitch pine with lovely grain and is on good condition in the centre where it has always been protected by carpet but has thick brown varnish and is a bit beaten up round the edge. Want to avoid the yellow/ orange pine look and have an ancient reclaimed floorboards look, this will also help it fit in with other wooden furniture we have which is mid toned.

anyone had success with a stain plus wax or tinted wax?

Watching for inspiration. We have just stained a fairly new pine floor which we found when we took up some manky carpet with some leftover ronseal mahogany to see how it comes out. Its ok, a bit too red really but after a week it already has noticable marks where DS's scooter has scuffed it Hmm

I think we need a much more natural toned hardwearing coat of something in the future and I don't really know which way to go.
