I'd really appreciate any views on whether these first quotes are about what we should expect to pay.
Large Victorian semi - so three walls - only the front is painted, rest is brick. The main work is prep and painting of all woodwork, filling etc. Hasn't been done for a while, but not in terrible condition. First quote £3K for redecoration, £1.2K for scaffolding, which is a reqt I think - it's also awkward access wise with power lines to avoid, and very close neighbours.
The side wall ideally needs patch repointing at the same time, some parts are in a poor state and we'll have scaffolding up. First quote is over £4K to repoint whole wall (waiting for them to requote for just the parts needing repair). I'm wondering if they are quoting high because of access issues or whether this sounds about right. I know it's a tough and long job if done well.
I wasn't expecting to add £8K to the mortgage - any feedback (or recommendations for alternative quotes)?
Thanks!
