no marks on hob or oven controls - landlord shld replace?

am moving to new rental - it's cheap(ish) for area as decor not fully modern. not too worried about that. space is good... however, there are no marks for the oven and (very old fashioned steel plate) hob controls ie I litereally cannot see anything to tell me which is high / low or what temperature oven is. or the dfieferent oven setting which is fan which is grill etc

is landlord liable to replace oven and hob?

does it count as electrical hazard?

If you cannot google it for a picture or manual, easily, then I would say yes it is a hazard.

My washing machine controls did this but I knew where they were by then iyswim.

I'm not sure its a fire hazard but I would ask ll for information leaflet and expect them to provide it.
Its not much fun finding out for yourself. Hob controls are quite easy to work out from start to end of the full allowable turn.

Sounds familiar, I lived in a rental with one of these! These older hobs just do that, and no, the landlord does not need to replace it and it is not a hazard. But have a chat with him, ask for the instructions and for his permission to mark up what the controls do.

BTW the old steel hobs will not do your pans any good so don't buy smart new ones.

The landlord should enable you to use it I think. So provide a manual, explain / add some marks.

Sounds a bit like the cooker in the house we bought. Luckily we had the manual - and they are googleable, even older ones - so we know oven settings as 'three clicks' 'just past middle' etc.

An oven thermometer is helpful regardless, as different ovens heat differently, however new or perfect they are.
