Can't turn the bath taps off...

They've always been stiff and you need to turn and turn to get water out and then to stop it.

Just had a shower and the taps are trickling a not unsubstantial amount of water. I physically can't turn them anymore. Any tips on fixing it please?

Can you get to the pipework? There may be isolation valves you can use to stop them.

They'll either have a lever or a little screw.

Not all houses have them though.

they might look like a flexible silver pipe ? with a more soild area with a screw in ? you simply turn the screw so it is horizontal to the vertical pipe ie to shut it off ( so should be half a turn from when it was open ) sometimes there's a plastic lever ?! that makes it easier to turn off ! will buy you some time to call a plumber out at a more normal hour !

Do your taps have knobs that go round by several turns? Or a quarter turn?

Have you got a hot water cylinder or a combi boiler?

For tonight, turn off the water heater or boiler so you are not wasting money as well as water.

Once you have turned the heater off, you can turn off the main stop cock if you know where it is (you should)
