Aluminium sliding doors -Grey?

The rest of the house is white (UPVC) (yuk) but anyway...we are having
new patio doors.

The other people in our street who have done patios have got coloured aluminium patio doors so now I'm wondering if this is the norm? No-one has the same colour as their windows.

Well its up to you really and depends what material you are getting them made in.

If they are aluminium then you usually get a choice of a RAL colour (which is the most common colour chart used for a powder coated paint).

We are just having windows and doors made and they are being finished in paint called Smart Sensations which is a very hardwearing scratch resistant paint that has a slightly raised finish, not as many colours to choose from as RAL but we are having black so it didn't matter about colour too much.

In a previous house we had dark grey through choice.

We have also had timber framed folding sliding doors, again by choice.

You could have white aluminium if you wanted to match to your windows.

This is what I'm finding confusing (but I'm no designer). What aren't people automatically choosing the same colour as their house paintwork?

I'm not saying it's wrong, I don't know what to do but I'm seeing people choosing a different colour from the rest of their house.

We have installed dark grey aluminium folding doors as part of our refurbishment project. The reason we didn't go for white colour was that first, the gaskets and internal seals are usually black (would have been too much of a contrast), the white look may appear cheap if not done right (almost like the look of uPVC doors) and third, it gets dirty and off-white pretty soon. Oh, and dark grey (anthracite grey) is one of the usual standard colours, anything other may have cost us extra.

Ah, thanks for that insight Audrey. That sounds like a very good reason for going with another colour (I'm learning day by day)
