Can you use a loft conversion built in 1980s as a bedroom?

Hi, the loft conversion was built in 1980s with a dormer. Surveyor said there is no steelwork although new 225mm by 50mm joists have been provided and these span from front to rear. He said as a loft room, the frame work is better than normally seen but if this is to be used as a bedroom then the framing falls short of what would now be provided. What attracted us to this house was this extra room which we wanted to used as a 4th bedroom. Would it be unsafe now to use as a bedroom? Have you got a 1980s converted loft and also used as a bedroom?

We are just selling a house with an 80s conversion. We have used as a bedroom, there have been no issues although loft rules have changed and I know the buyers' surveyor has made recommendations for installing fire doors etc.

Ours was deadly and pushing our house apart. But sounds like yours is a bit better. What's the insulation like? Ours was freezing in the winter, boiling in the summer etc...
