Burglar alarm keeps going off..

It's been saying 'power cut fault check' for ages but I just ignored it until yesterday it started going off with a fuse/battery fault. I have taken the control unit front off and pulled the fuse out but that didn't work, it seems that putting the code in works for a bit then it goes off a number of hours later. I can't see how to turn the damn thing off but I don't know if its safe to remove the battery because it says '240 v ac mains don't operate with cover off'. The alarm company is shut today and I have no contract with them as I bought the house a few months ago. Any ideas how to turn the damn thing off!? Thanks

it sounds like you have a fault on the power supply. It will be sounding on the backup battery until it runs flat. With luck it will stop after 20 minutes, but the battery itself may last 8 hours or so.

Leave the power switch off or fuse out, otherwise you will be charging the battery back up. Look for an FCU something like this the fuseholder can be removed with a small screwdriver.

Thanks so much. The fuse in the actual control box was out overnight last night but it sounded again this morning. There is also an FCU thingey as in your link, but I didn't touch it as there seem to be wires going towards the central heating unit too;but I have now removed the fuse from that box and will see what happens. So annoying that there isn't just an on off switch somewhere. Thanks again.

OK it seems to be doing some sort of meltdown/shut down thing with quietish beeping, so fingers crossed!

This happened in our street recently. It kept going off intermittently even when it wasn't set as there was a fault and the battery backup kept sounding. So many people complained that environmental health came out and they had to get an alarm company to disconnect it.

It's cheaper to get the alarm company to come and look at it in working hours, but environmental health may force you to get it fixed out of hours if it is a nuisance (which this really was, several nights of interrupted sleep).
