flooring for childrens bedroom

we plan to redecorating the dc's bedrooms in the summer.
new windows, removing fireplaces etc.
we are still unsure about the flooring.
atm there is carpet, quite high and soft, so unsuitable for lego.

cons laminate: dust bunnies, will not look as cosy, noise
cons carpet: difficult for lego play, (more) difficult to keep clean

Carpet, I have laminate in a bedroom for all the reasons you have stated.
Get a little table for the lego or a board to put down on the floor.

We're going to put down wood floors and will have a large area rug. I don't like carpet.

there are no nice floorboards (just rough wood bl,anks), but we would want good underlay anyway to reduce creaking/noise.

Why are you removing the fireplaces? I like carpet in kids rooms it helps with noise (but for the rooms below and in general). I have wood floor in our bedroom and it creates an echo-- I can't imagine how bad it would sound in a child's room.

well, the fireplaces are large, tiled monstrosities. the hearth is also tiled and takes a lot of floor space. how I didn't yet brake my toes I will never know
they are never used and I rather have the extra space.

Both my dds have had laminate since they were small -it's been fantastic!

Child throws up in room? Mops up

Child spills bedtime glass of water on floor? Wipes up

Child wants to turn entire room into a giant train track? Stays put without breaking up every 2 minutes

Teenager spills makeup all over the floor near her dressing table? Wipes up

It would be my perfect choice of flooring, but haven't had a chance to use it yet.

Depends on your layout...DC rooms are above our room so will be carpeting for noise reasons. laminate with big (washable) area rug is a good compromise though.

We have floorboards (so laminate equivalent I guess) with large area rugs. Every so often I throw the rugs away and buy new (ie not vomited or wee'd on). Dust bunnies are a pain, but I rarely Hoover and we have lots of cats...

Cork. It's warm and quiet like carpet but easy to clean.

Depends if you are attached to your neighbours or not. Our neighbours put wooden flooring in all their upstairs room and the noise was horrendous.

We've got looped carpet in all our bedrooms. It's nice and soft for them to sit on to play and doesn't cause them any problems with Lego.

I find wood a bit noisy for bedrooms (cold if floorboards too)

Same as a few others - laminate with large cheap IKEA rugs.

When DS2 vomited on the rug it was placed in the bath and showered the next day. It then went outside until
I had time to put the carpet cleaner over it.

Dust bunnies aren't great, but they're the least of my worries!

Carpet or karndean, soft and quiet.

Allergy house here, so floorboards (painted) and rugs that I can thrash on the line.

floorboards/laminate every single time - as other posters have said - when they pee/vomit/drop stuff it is easily dealt with and the play surface is much better.

Machine washable rugs can be useful (we've used giant Ikea bathmats in the past) but both my DD and my DS have recently decided they don't even want rugs in their rooms.
