do you have mumford and wood windows?

Are they good and, if you have painted timber, have they lasted well? Have also been told to look at Privett windows who also do timber frames. Any other recommendations welcome.

got such a stupidly large quote from Mumford and wood , I was in shock for the whole week. thankfully I found a joiner locally who was fab!!!!!

our architect recommended mumford too but we phoned them a couple of weeks ago, e-mailed and no response at all! They're probably busy sorting out windows like yours what on earth! Hope you get yours sorted but I'm probably going to leave them alone.

Hi we have Mumford and Wood windows. They were recommended by our architect. They were enormously expensive but we wanted to buy good quality and support a local co. BIG MISTAKE! The glass is really scratched and Mumford refuse to take responsibility!!! Just wondered if there is anyone else out there who have had problems with Mumfords glass scratching?

Since my post on the 6th I have not heard back from anyone so I have investigated the two problems mentioned above. Whatonearththisthis - these windows were supplied with putty glazing ready for the builder to finish painting the putty when it had set. Unfortunately the builder did not prime them correctly so the paint flaked and the windows leaked. As part of our excellent service we have helped the client by replacing the windows, free of charge even though we were not at fault. stephanie 1502 - we have already investigated this problem. After visits from both our service engineer and our customer services manager, the client agreed that all the scratches had been caused by her contractor and were not present when the windows were supplied. We are assisting the client by replacing all the affected glass, in 2 visits to suit the client at a very low cost.
Mumford and Wood is celebrating it's 60th anniversary this year and we are very proud of the reputation we have built for service second to none. We always take care of any problems - even if they are not due to ourselves. Thank you. Mike Harris Managing Director

Im really suprised to read this thread.
We had an install from Mumford and Wood recently and I have been singing their praises to everyone ever since.
I found their prices to be reflective of the obvious excellent quality and the customer service was second to none.
Everything was done to specification, they did exactly what they said they would and when they said they would.
This resulted in very happy husband and that equals happy wife, Right??

Interesting first post gemski3899. Almost like you have a vested interested in a positive review of this company. Better not to try such transparent tactics if this is the case, it only makes the critical reviews seem more representative imo.

I have been wanting to join for a while as I use cloth nappies and make children's clothing but have heard that the members on here can be very unpleasant so haven't dared to brave a post so far.
Having seen this thread and having used this company satisfactorily I thought I would balance the negativity for this lady.
It seems that im definitely not going to fit in here with my positive attitude so will be deleting my account.
P.s. I have no vested interest in mumford and glass I am just a customer, so perhaps don't give up the day job in favour of detective work! IMO.

gemski I do apologise if you are a genuine MNetter. You must see how your post looked though! Unfortunately you will find that people on MN give genuine opinions which try to help people, rather than bolster their ego. I would call it a realistic approach, rather than a negative attitude.

If you are flouncing after one fairly mild post, you might find nethuns more to your liking. IMO.

I can confirm that Mumford and Wood have returned and replaced the 3 leaking windows although I think the jury is still out on who is reponsible for the fault and we haven't had enough rain to test how fit for purpose they are since. To be fair we did have alot of rain over the winter and I know many people who had leaks in previously sound structures.

Unfortunately as Mike of Mumford identfied me from my post IRL and then went on to post specfic details of our dealings with the company I had to have all posts under this username deleted which was a shame and made for a very uncomfortable few days whilst MN got round to responding to my request.

Excellent product but some of the worst service I've ever encountered, they even miscounted the number of windows required, and then tried to charge me after I'd accepted the quote !! Tim Kirk ( salesman ) chased Saturday and Sunday for the order then became the full brother of Lord Lucan during the after sales process. When buying a premium product you rightly expect first class guidance, especially when you aren't a building expert, the direct opposite was true. Apparently they got into financial difficulty a few years ago, this is little surprise to me. It's such a shame in a country where manufacturing is in decline that a premiership product is run by an amateur league management team, with no joined up process. The even sadder thing is that it could so easily be fixed.

we are currently building our new house and ordered our windows from Mumford & Wood although the windows are of high quality we were totally gutted when our windows were delivered in the wrong colour! The samples we had chosen from were labelled wrong. Although Mumfords admitted liabilty they didnt really care they offered to take windows back and change the colour but would take 4 weeks and we couldn't wait, plus it would of cost us lots of money to do so as we are on a schedule. We have finally settled on a refund of £2800 which is no help to us we are devastated we spent £16,000 on windows that are the wrong colour i would never recommend Mumfords to anyone, they are more worried about their profit than their customers!

I have read your post and would like to take this opportunity to apologise that your windows were not the correct shade of green you selected. This is an uncharacteristic mistake due to human error at the time of spraying and labelling your three sample swatches. It is extremely important to me that our customer service and care is of the same standard as our products. As you say, our wooden windows are of a very high quality and all of us at Mumford & Wood are disappointed when things go wrong and our customers are left feeling unhappy.

I place the highest priority on our customer service and customer satisfaction and am disappointed to hear that in these two recent cases we have fallen short of our high standards. We apologise for any shortcomings in our service but welcome the comments you have made as we investigate these incidents and review our current processes. We have had a terrible experience with Mumford and Wood windows/bi-fold doors, after spending £15k they have a very poor finish on them, their fitters were just terrible and despite coming back to repair our windows they made them worse! We are now waiting to see if they will come back and sort out our windows. We paid a premium in the hope we would get a premium product and service but sadly we got neither.

I've had quotes for a few windows on the front of our house which have so far varied between 12k and 33k which is unbelievable imo.

Will try LoveMyScarf's husband but may be a bit too far out for him.

I also have had a very poor experience. Emailed my initialo enquiry and had to chase it up for 2 weeks before they finally responded. After the site visit, I had to chase the quote for another 2 weeks, only for it to be ridiculously expensive. When I checked it, I noticed they had missed one window off altogether ( the largest window in the house!!!) which at their prices would have been an additional £6k. I don't mind paying for quality but if they cant be bothered to respond to initial enquiries, provide quotes on a timely basis and accurately count the correct number of windows in the house, then probably no point proceeding.

Waited 10 days for a quotation after they had all the details. Clearly they aren't bothered about ordinary customers. If this is an indication of their level of service I wont be using them. Have placed the order elsewhere
