Desirable house, undesirable location

When we moved here we loved the village, but as DD has grown up we have lost the village shop, there are fewer & fewer things going on in the village & a house our size (detached 4 bed) only sells once every few years!
Any ideas of things we can do to make people want to come & view it? Not on the market yet, but hoping to be soon.
We do have a good village school by the way, so not all bad!

If the houses don't sell very often, that's most likely a shortage of supply.

So yours might sell quite quickly.

Make sure the house looks desirable. Definitely deal with any outstanding decorating or maintenance issues and put away clutter. Get the agent to draw attention to the excellent village school. That is a hub in its own right.

We live in a village with no shop, no school, no street lights, no mains sewer, no gas and we live on a bridleway. Houses still sell and we do have an active village hall and a community spirit. We also have outstanding countryside. You have to big up the positives and not even mention no shop. That will not be a deal breaker for most people, but making sure your house is lovely and marketed at the right price will make it sell. Good luck.

We've had bigger houses sell very quickly in the past, but others that have been on the market for upto 2 years.
We've started redecorating & will install new flooring, a new fence at the front etc. But don't want to spend huge sums of money. Ideally we'd replace the kitchen but funds just won't stretch.
I think the biggest problem is going to be pricing it - our neighbour in an identical house asked a couple of estate agents around last year & their suggestions were 100k apart!!! Try & time that with relocation & school move for a Sept 2015 start & it all looks very daunting.
