You know it is all glossy white or brownie black veneer stuff.

Well, can you paint it? And if so,how? Surely paint would just slide off.

I'm thinking Expedit or Billy bookcase.

Many thanks. Was looking at £3k bill for shelves across two walls but now can paint Billy, they'll be fine.

I've just painted a black/brown expedit in annie sloan antoinette -only took 2 coats, no primer needed, took no time at all Grin

zoemaguire · 24/02/2014 01:17

I did it too, bulls eye primer + little Greene, backing board to fill back. Even filled gaps with pollyfiller! It took weeks! Looks great 2 years in but slightly less durable than I'd hoped - the paint has flaked where I drag the wooden boxes in and out, but then I am asking a lot for a painted surface!

winkywinkola · 24/02/2014 17:25

Ahem. Do you paint before or after construction?

After. That way painted over the filler. It looks great - not like flatpack at all.

winkywinkola · 25/02/2014 06:25

Ohhhhhhhh, MaryShelley, it looks great. Really great.

I'm now intrigued by Ikea stopping Expedit and replacing it with a skinnier Kallax.

Or perhaps I should stick with the classic Billy and paint it so it looks as beautiful as MaryShelley's.
