Loft conversions

I'm in a process of buying a house and have quite a few issues with the house. There is a loft conversion built in 1980s. There is no steel work although new 225mm by 50mm joists have been provided and these span from front to rear. The surveyor says if this is to be considered to use as a bedroom then the framing falls short of what would now be provided. So does that means the loft room will not be safe to use as a bedroom? My husband said to use as a bedroom regardless what the suveyor says but with me being such a worrier I'm not too sure.

It's more likely that it doesn't meet current building regulations in terms of insulation or fire safety or permanent staircase. You can ask the surveyor what he/she thinks.
