Painting kitchen cupboards

Hello, we're looking at doing up our kitchen a bit, but don't want to spend a fortune replacing the whole thing at the moment, so I'd like the doors and drawers painted. The units are old but in good condition and are solid wood (oak, I think).

Has anyone done this job themselves and if so, would you do it again, or get someone in? I can paint a wall, but not much experience with wood. I know it'll take a while to do, so time's not a restriction as such- just wondering whether it's one of those jobs that's worth doing myself, or not, really. Not sure how much it'd cost (7 pairs of cupboard doors).

Also, has anyone got a wooden work surface that's worn really well? I'd like one, but I've heard that they stain quickly, so not sure how practical it would be?

Thanks in advance Smile

I have a lovely painter called Steve who paints mine ! He is quick and tidy and it's done in two days - if I did it - it would be chaos for weeks ! Well worth the money - as I need my kitchen !!! I had a wooden worktop on my island - and some well meaning idiot put a casserole straight out of the oven onto it and burnt it ! rather than faff about sanding etc etc I just replaced it . Love wood worktops but always have in the back of my mind that someone else will trash it ! So I don't have real wood anymore :-(

Look up Annie Sloan paint jobs on you tube. Not sure what it is called. There is a woman on there who shows you how it's done and you don't have to be fussy with the painting. A couple of coats and then wax.

Thanks for the tip, deste, will have a look. Have you tried this method and did it work?

Thanks!
