Do I really need any cupboards in my kitchen??

Have read all the kitchen threads and pretty much decided upon the layout for the new kitchen. It's currently an all drawers design, which I fought hard for - plus pull out larders - and I'm wondering now whether I really do need a cupboard or two in there... Aggghhh
Anyone miss cupboards??

The only thing is having space to store tall stuff (cereal packets, jars, jugs etc) and whether you'd have open shelves or not. I wouldn't have open shelves near the cooker for example because of grease.
We kept cupboard eg for fiddly stuff like Tupperware and crockery as I wanted them on the wall out of reach of toddlers. I drew a plan of NY current kitchen labeling where stuff was then where it would move to in the new kitchen.

I've mainly got deep drawers on the bottom and would happily swap the cupboards that are there for more deep drawers. I have got wall cupboards though and they are pretty useful.

I had the drawers taken out and cupboards put in. They got too cluttered.

Just look at all the 'stuff' you currently have in your kitchen and imagine it in the drawers you're planning!

I could do with fewer cupboards and more (deep) drawers, but I don't think I'd have just drawers. Stacks of pans, vegetable rack, food mixer, stacks of plates, all seem better in cupboards to my mind. And what about mugs and glasses, specially ones not in daily use?

Are wine glasses safe in drawers? My main concern...

I keep both pans and the main bit of my food processor in deep drawers. With the pans it's actually a very efficient use of space as I can stack them right to the top of the drawer and don't have to leave space above to manoevre them in and out. (does that make any sense?!) I actually keep the accessories for the food processor in a cupboard but I think they would be fine in a drawer - perhaps in a big box to keep them together?

Never tried it with plates but I think maybe you would need those special holders to stop them sliding about? I keep those in a wall cupboard. Think mugs and glasses need a shelf.

Yes! Our kitchen was newly installed when we bought the house (by previous owners) and there are hardly any cupboards. Wall cupboards but nothing for tall things. We have pull out larders too, and whilst they are handy, I don't think they trump cupboards for the expense. I do love deep drawers though.

Where do you keep tea, coffee, sugar etc? I'm planning to put it all away somehow, but I wonder if I need a small cupboard near the kettle. Do mugs go in a drawer too?

i have just deep drawers on ther lower units, and cupboards on the upper units. i do love my drawers!

i keeps pans, plates, utensils, mixing bowls, food etc in the drawers

i keep cups and glasses in cupaboards, and cereal and herbs

I love my pan drawers and wish I had more drawers in my kitchen. However, I find cupboards more practical for food storage. I can't imagine not having cupboards on the wall though.

Right, I am a numpty! I should have said all drawers under the worktops.
The plan is to have two 900 wall cupboards either side of the range, and these will hold glasses, mugs and the tea/coffee making stuff.

Are deep drawers best? Hubby thinks we should have 3 drawers in each unit - do I need loads of small drawers??

What happens in the corners? Do you lose the space? Can't imagine corner drawers!

No, 3-drawer units are best. There'll be plenty of the shallow ones at the top for cutlery and utensils, foil etc, napkins and kitchen crap... For everything else, you'll want them deep.

We have drawers under the worktop and wall cupboards above. The drawers are great but one thing to remember is that (because they are drawers) they lose quite a bit in width compared to a cupboard. Wouldn't want to swap it though.

Yep, there will be a void in the one corner - it's L shaped. It works well for us as the corner isn't a right angle and was a bit fiddly anyway. I did think of having a drawer unit run across the corner but it would have meant a really deep worktop.

We have pull out larders. The skinny one is fantastic. The big one isn't really designed to carry much weight and if I was doing it again, I would just have larder cupboards as I need to be so careful what I put in it. I guess that's down to the quality of the construction but I am wary of them now.

you might find that what looks like two drawers can also have an extra internal drawer inside - most sink drawer units have two drawers and some dishwashers have two drawers aswell - so if you have all your drawer units looking like two drawers - you can have some with internal top drawers and some with just two deep drawers ! will look more unified that way !

I'm having two 350ml pull out larder units. The designers wanted to use 450’s but I was worried about the weight so stuck to the smaller ones. We also have a large alcove that we are turning in to a larder that will have drawers underneath a worktop for the microwave, breadmaker etc and I'm hoping that we can find a tambour door for it.

I've looked at the 'hidden' internal drawers Oneplan, but was concerned that having to open two drawers would be a bit of a nuisance. One of the challenges has been making sure the drawlines match up all around the runs. Hmmm, need to recheck the sink drawer now to see what we can do. Tricky this stuff isn't it!
