Timber and damp survey

My buyer is having a timber and damp survey. What does it involve and how long does it take? Does it involve drilling walls, lifting carpets, etc?

It might do if they need to take a section for a sample, I would have thought they would have to ask you for permission though?
It will involve lifting carpets and a few floorboards though.
