Carpet- Should I go for a 100% polypropylene?

I'm looking to get a new carpet for our bedroom & living room, but I'm on a bit of a budget. I was originaly looking for an 80:20 wool mix, although one of the salesman has recommended cormar primo ultra which is 100% polypropylene. Has anyone had any experience if this type of carpet? Is it ok or should I avoid it?

We've got 100% polypropylene in our living room and ds's room - it was the only way we could get the stain guard we wanted. After originally thinking I was set on 80/20, it feels lovely to the touch and you can't tell IMO. Best tip: get the most expensive underlay you can afford, it will make the most difference regardless of carpet.

We got 80/20 for the stair carpet and IMO it's showing the wear a lot quicker after only a few months and the bloody cat using it as a scratching post

I love wool carpets BUT these days Polypropylene carpets loom great, are cheap, are hard wearing and easy to clean. It is a mo brained really especially with kids.

I have them on stairs and in kids rooms.

We had 100% polypropylene put right through our house when we sold it, it was super soft and we loved it. Make sure to get the best thick pad you can afford it makes it feel luxurious under bare feet. Also lasts longer.

Another one here, hugely in favour. The one we have upstairs has amazing stain protection and I beleive you can even use bleach. Very easy to spot clean, I use baby wipes, and they come up lovely after hoovering.

We have v good quality underlay and they've been fitted really well.

They look much better than our 80/20 one on the stairs - trampled pile, difficult to clean, cat scratching post, not to mention all the fibre shedding that went on for years after it was laid. I was having to hoover it daily because of the shedding.

I got 4 bedrooms, underlay and fitting done for one quarter of the cost of the 80/20.

I really don't think i'd ever buy 80/20 again.

I think modern polypropylene looks lovely, and I have used it myself before... but one negative is the fire risk. Those carpets go up like nothing on earth if they catch, and the fumes can be terrible. If you have a fire in your lounge, it might be worth thinking of something else in there...
