Do these cracks mean the roof is about to cave in?

Every doorway upstairs had a vertical crack running from the ceiling to the corner of the doorframe, the side opposite to the hinges

Hit me with it. The whole lot is about to collapse isn't it?

are we talking 'stick your finger in it' type cracks ? or 'hairline' cracks ?

has the upstairs been plastered recently ?
anyone been slamming doors ( angry teens are good at this !)
if you are seriously concerned - maybe get a survey done !

How long have the cracks been there?

Don't panic. Houses don't often collapse. But you might need to spend some money.

Our plastering took a couple of weeks to settle. During that time several long hairline cracks developed that looked dreadful but were filled when we decorated and no problems since.

Is the crack on the other side of the wall too?

Ooo answers. They're thin cracks

We've only been here a few months, I think the upstairs may well have been replastered

What gives me hope is that if I knock the bit above the door sounds different to each side of the main wall

Is it possible that the bit of plaster above the door is different to the rest of the wall? Is that 'a thing'?
