How much for replacing doorframes?

All of our doorframes (and doors for that matter) need replacing as they are damaged pretty much beyond repair so far as I can see. Oh, the joys of an unloved ex-LA property... 9 doorframes in total + doors and handles. Trying to get some quotes in is like pulling teeth! We're in Oxfordshire - what's a good ballpark estimate so we know how much to save, do you think?

A competent joiner or carpenter can probably do about two in a day and have a day rate of about £140. On a building site he would be expected to work faster than in your house, but everything would be new and standard. Also in your house you will be very particular about the standard of finish, and you may have old and damaged or poor-condition walls.

A good joiner can fit a door so that a 2p piece fits exactly between the door and the frame all round, and will feel uncomfortable doing shoddy work. Expect to pay for his extra time and skill. If he can work to that standard he will boast of it.

When someone comes round, ask what size gap they would expect to leave, and observe if they know why you are asking.

Is that 2 frames and doors hung in a day?

Yes, about.
