How can I improve the look of a new carpet?!

Have bought new carpets, and they are browner than I was expecting. They're not quite 'landlord brown' but I was hoping they'd look an oatmeal colour and they're most definitely flecky brown.

Is there anything I can do to make them look lighter? Paint walls white?

I'd rather not do a rug, as there isn't much room and it would get caught under the door.

Sorry about your disappointment.
Painting the walls white would make them look darker as it is all about the contrast. If the walls were a lighter shade of the carpet colour, it might be less noticeable.

Thanks. I think all I can do for a bit is live with them and see how I feel. Grr.
