Door to kitchen

We've not been in our property that long and there is no door between the kitchen and the living room (it's not open plan, there's just no door). It hasn't really been a problem apart from when someone is cooking in the kitchen with the radio on, the person in the living room can't hear the telly!
But we have a VERY greedy cat and it's getting more and more difficult fending him off food. We'd love to put a door up but the gap is only 2' wide, much narrower than normal door spaces.
What can we do? We've put up a temporary folding door (cheap, from Argos) but cat just barges through it as if it isn't there!
Help please!

Your door is only 2ft wide? That's very narrow...

This might help

these?

plenty more

to block noise, a heavy solid door is better than a lightweight or hollow one. Fire doors are particularly effective.

A joiner or carpenter can fit a door much better and faster than a DIYer or handyman, and will know the good local sources.

Wow, thanks for these ideas. I'd had a search bug couldn't come up with anything. Hopefully the end to kitty's constant grazing is in sight!
