I like the idea of a warm-coloured wood, or wood-effect.

We have wooden floors throughout but you need rugs for DCs to play on as wooden floors can be hard on little knees and hands. You need to think about noise in an open plan space too.

We have quite pale wooden floors throughout too, rugs in the living area.

Thanks, I am buying a house with laminate which needs replaced, so am interested in other options. Amtico appears in a lot of search results here.

Karndean is also a good brand- we put it down in our last house and are saving up for it for our new one.

We have an engineered Oak floor throughout the ground floor - not as much as a dust trap as laminate - ages well and looks lovely. get a nice big rug for the living area and it's easy to change when you change your decor.

I think amtico / karndean etc are like vinyl (I'm just finding out about this now). Yes that's definitely an option .

I'm getting Karndean fitted in a couple of weeks. Some of my friends have it and it looks good but is also practical.

We have bamboo. It's beautiful.

Can you have half carpet & half whatever else with something to divide it, ?

We have karndean - I think summer oak. Looks like planks, lovely natural look, but all the benefits of a vinyl type floor - easier to care for. Runs through big open plan kitchen, living/dining playroom. Gets lots of compliments and we love it!
