can I have yours thoughts about this property?

We're considering buying a ten year old timber framed house. It's part of a small terrace, with houses to one side and a three storey block of flats on the other, all attached and part of the same development. My first worry was noise, but the present tenants, and the neighbors tell me that isn't a problem. I would be grateful if people could give me their thoughts on this kind of property.
Also, the back garden is overlooked by flats at the rear (a conversion of a Georgian terrace). Has anyone else been in that situation, and did you get used to it, or does it still bother you?
Everything else about the house ticks our boxes, but we're worried about these two issues.

What is the parking like?

carlajean · 28/01/2014 22:49

There's an allocated parking space behind, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I knew someone who had a nice house near flats and noise used to be a problem. I think it was because the flats tended to be occupied by younger single people who like to party more than most.

There is a website whereby you can search on crimes reported in the area - it picks things up like anti social behaviour etc. Might be worth a check before you start to shell out money.

The one thing I would say though is that if you have concerns, you can always just keep looking for the right thing and find something that ticks all the boxes.

Well they would say it isn't a problem! I would be concerned about the fact that I would have more than 2 neighbours due to the flats. I would also not be keen on being overlooked. Sounds a bit too surrounded by people for my personal taste.

Thank you, it's good to hear other's thoughts on this.

When we were thinking of offering on our house we went and sat outside in the car at different times just to see what it was really like.

Can you go out in the evenings and walk around the area, especially on a Friday and Saturday night. You might get a feel for if it livens up a little. Talk to as many people as you can about the area and ask them if they know anything - good or bad.

Single people on their own might not necessarily be a problem. Our neighbour is younger, on her own and hardly there.
