Basement flats

Any thing in particular we need to know about basement flats? We're considering offering on a 3 bed with 2 bedrooms on the ground floor and 1 bedroom below (this will be guest / study so used infrequently really). In guessing damp will be the main problem with basements, anything else to watch out for??

Yes definitely damp, really got to watch out for that. Also how busy is the road it's on, will people be constantly walking above you. And what about natural light?

What is the drainage like along the road outside? A friend of mine lived in a basement flat and was flooded frequently because the council didn't keep the drains cleared in the road.

Thanks for responses!
PartyartistThe basement room is below the master bedroom of the flat so noise from upstairs neighbour not a problem in the basement. There is a window but light is blocked as the view is of the stairs that lead to the basement entrance. We won't use the basement entrance as there is a separate ground floor entrance so will plan to bring the height of wall around the stairs down an paint white so that should increase the light a little. Ultimately it's not going to be used much as its a guest room so not too concerned about light to be honest. The rest of the flat is ground level and very bright!
strawberrycheese how do I find out about the drainage? Presumably wouldn't get picked up on a survey?
