Building survey

Our buyer is having a building survey done. What does it involve? Will the surveyor be drilling into walls? If so, will they repair the holes afterwards?

They won't be drilling holes, no, though sometimes they like to stick a very thin spike into walls to test for damp. You can refuse anything major, like lifting fitted carpets. they will want to look in the loft / roof hatch, any cellar that sort of thing.

We had a full structural survey on the house we're buying and they didn't do anything invasive...looked at the roof with binoculars, went into the loft but didn't look beyond insulation, didn't lift carpet etc. Our estate agent says that surveyors will never move anything out of the way even, such as sofas or big bits of furniture. Nothing to worry about!

Thanks. It was reassuring to hear.
