Curtain Sizing Help!

My lounge pole is 315cm long. I understand this means I should double the width and buy a pair of curtains totalling 630cm across if I am choosing pencil pleat.

The ones I like total 520cm as they are 260 x 228.

They are from John Lewis and are £190. To have exactly the same fabric in made to measure will cost £590.

£400 is a massive difference. On a window this large will it look awful if I hang the ready made ones at 1.65 x the width of the pole?

Has anyone done this?

Failing that does anyone know of anywhere that sells reasonable quality curtains in the width I need without them being made to measure?

Thank you.

You could get them but they won't look very luxurious. Will be a bit tight when you pull them closed.

I thought pencil pleats needed 3x fullness.

I might be tempted to push the ratios for 20/30/40 cm, but you're going to be 110 cm too short, which I think is taking it too far. You wouldn't get any gather and they would look like cheap, caravan curtains.

John Lewis say they will fit a pole up to 276cm so they can't be a x3 design. I'd be 40cm shy using their measurement.

I think neepsanadtatties has sounded the death bell for giving it a go..... Can't look at caravan curtains all day.....!

Not sure I can stomach an extra £400 either though. It's a massive difference.

What a pain.

If you are shoddy, like me, you can hang four curtains per window instead of two, to give good fullness. Sometimes it enables you use readymades. You can overlap at the join.

Yes, that's an option pigletjohn. I am aware this is a first world problem......

I've found a company in Bolton on the Internet that sell reasonably priced, genuinely wide curtains. There is only one design I like so am going to send off for a sample.

Anyone heard of them?

I shudder to think what the curtains that are currently up cost. They were left by previous owners when we moved in before Christmas and despite being the very opposite of my taste they are very full and thick with the works in terms of swags, tails etc.

Difficult to say without knowing what fabric your after, but have you tried ebay? There seem to be lots of people there that offer made to measure curtains at a reasonable price, and with decent feedback.

Thanks BoBoo I'll check that out.

Thinking of just joining the ones I like now as per pigletjohn's suggestion. Going to see if the MNetters on Arts and Crafts can tell me how hard this will be.....
