Help with my self-assessment details please!

Help please. I rent a little flat out and need to fill in my self-assessment form, as every year. I can't find my UTR number anywhere - I realise it is a 10-digit number that is usually seen in the top left corner of HRMC correspondence, but unfortunately I cannot find any records (long story). I used to have a card with my UTR in it but I lost my purse a while ago and the card with it. The last correspondence I got from the tax office does not show my UTR.

I have tried phoning their online helpdesk but I just cannot get through. What can I do? I am also having problems logging in - what a nightmare. Thanks.

Keep phoning- you might have more luck if you try your local office HMRC sometimes listed on BT.

They will send you one or may give you the details by phone but do not delay because if you need to complete by the 31st then you need to allow a week for post to arrive.

Have you ANY correspondence from them at all where you might find the number? It should be on any letters you have received from them.

Hi,

TheDrugs, thanks for your post - I did exactly as you said re cup of tea and did finally get through. They are sending me a new UTR in the post, fingers crossed I can still make the deadline.

Julia56, I have kept some correspondence but annoyingly, none of those letters have my UTR in it! Hence the panic.

Did you get a letter recently prompting you to do your return? Mine had it on the top right hand corner.
