that's it really, I want an almost room size rug for the lounge, approx 3.5 x 4m, asked in Carpet Right, they said it's bigger than they can handle for sewing (whipping?) the edge.
I have been struggling to find any online, despite looking for extra large / room size / 3.5 x 4m.
looking for plainish, neutral or soft grey / heather, less than £200.

any suggestions?

I think you are asking too much from most rug sellers- the size, combined with the budget isn't a winning combination.
I did find these guys who might make you one or they sell DIY edging so perhaps you could go down that route.

We've done this. Find a local whipping company willing to do it. We found ours through an independent carpet company. Then buy your 4x3 cut of carpet from them and pay to get it whipped. Ours cost about £300 all in but we did get expensive carpet Grin
