Renovating the interior of my house to give a modern twist

We have just finished renovating the exterior of our house and have decided to start on the inside. It is an open planned downstairs and we have decided to start by ripping up the floor and replacing it with a wooden floor.

Is there any recommendations as to a supplier that do a high quality finish?

Also I have heard that some types of timber can shrink leaving gaps between the panels, is this a big issue?

I am not very knowledgable about about wooden floors but I know engineered wood is stronger than more expensive solid oak flooring. Do you have underfloor heating to contend with?
