Estate agent mind games?

I'm new to all this house buying malarkey and I'm finding it difficult to trust bloody estate agents!

We put an offer in on a lovely property on Saturday and still waiting to hear back from the vendor. Apparently he was discussing it with his partner - but how difficult can it be?! Surely it's a yes/no answer?

The EA (well known national outfit) bas been fobbing me off and now I'm starting to get a bit nervy. I wonder whether it is normal for them to leave poor buyers hanging like this? The property has been on the market for ages and hasn't exactly been inundated with offers..

Anyone else feel as if they are being Jedi mind tricked or am I being paranoid?

Mabel, that's a good point. I'm starting to think the vendor is just rubbish. He has said he has been consulting his wife, his wider family, the dog, etc.. We've told the agent we are seeing other properties and will withdraw our offer if these shenanigans continue.

HomeIs, sounds very stressful but glad you got a good deal in the end. I wonder whether our buyer is hoping for an investor to take the property off his hands ASAP, given that it is currently tenanted.

We're seeing it again over the weekend to decide whether it's really worth it. Fingers crossed!

Just hold your ground and give them a time limit. Then stop calling and walk away. I always let the ea chase us for news, other wise you appear desperate. It's such a horrible game, but you definitely get the best results from playing hard to get!

Just to let you know what happened with this. I'm sure you've been wondering Smile

We finally heard from the vendor - he took the property off the market. The agent was mighty peeved and it was a big fat waste of everyone's time. So no EA games in this instance.

Thanks for all your responses!
