Has anyone renovated pine dining room chairs

I have pine dining room chairs and a table I really love but the chairs are beginning to look a bit ragged. I have googled and seen some videos and instructions but it seems very complicated - any MNer done this recently and can give me some tips or point me in the direction of the renovation for dummies instructions? What do you want to do? I have painted many chairs and tables to give them a new lease of life.

Hi Calendula, sorry I should have said I want to keep them natural looking so would prefer to brng new life to the wood. Somone I know mentioned using a matt laquer rather than an oil but I don't know how to decide. Thanks, FF
