Kitchen/bathroom/closet - a bit of everything really!

Please help! I have spent so long trying to make a decision I have totally confused myself and have no confidence in anything anymore. We are expats living in the US and renovating the house we have just bought. We have been living here as renters for a while so have a good understanding of what needs to be done. My main areas of doubt are:

I LOVE grey kitchens. I have found a mid-grey and a light grey that I like. We will have a wooden floor. The kitchen will be part of a larger L shape family room. I just cannot picture in my head what colour the walls/new sofa will be if I go with the grey (as opposed to white) I'm not keen on anything with yellow tones and worry that blue will be too cold.

We are having a new extension upstairs so will end up with a room that is 30ft by 13ft 8 - this space will be the master suite. I need to split that 13ft 8 into the bathroom and closet and the current plans have the closet as a walk in that is actually wider than the the bathroom. I said to the architect that I wanted a larger bathroom and a thinner closet but he said that I'm looking at it with a 'European's eyes' and that Americans love their walk in closets. The closet/bathroom will be 9ft 10 deep and will be on the right hand side as you walk into the room.

So I suppose what I need advice with is, what colour walls with a grey kitchen, are grey kitchens going to date quickly, and would you have a bigger closet or bathroom?

I feel better just writing it down :-) Off out now to look at tiles!

I am having a new kitchen in a few months with grey units. I'm have a chrome range cooker (double oven), chrome handles and am painting the walls the same shade of grey as the kitchen.

Have a look at this link for inspiration from Mark Wilkinson website (my kitchen isn't from here, but it shows how nice it can look):

Hi ! Grey kitchens are in right now yes - but the good news is that most of these types of kitchens - here in UK and over the water too - are paintable ! So you can change to the new trend as and when you want to !
White walls looks good with grey and tan leather sofas look fantastic with grey and with white ! As for your European eyes ! Good for you ! Have what you want as you are the one paying for it !!!! There's loads of pic on Houzz why not do a pic search for 'grey kitchens' for inspiration !! Good luck - and don't be bullied !!! :-)

Hahahaha thank you!!

Funny, I had the chat with DH last night about designing and planning the house for us and not for what we think people will want to buy. We have bought the house to hopefully stay here another 7-10 years or so, not just to flip.

I'm quite good at finding pictures of styles I like but have no confidence in emulating it in real life!!
