How much noise does your hot water cylinder make?

When it's refilling/heating.

We've always had a combi and I don't know if the roaring sounds I hear for 20mins when I'm trying to enjoy my bath are normal Flowers in advance

It sounds like quite an old one - my parents had one that used to do this when I was a child and I had a few crappy ones in the first slum flats I lived in but I've not come across it in recent years.

Thanks - that sounds promising that an update might at least sort the problem, I did wonder if it was normal and it had just been a while since I lived with one

none at all

what colour is the cylinder?

are you sure the noise does not come from the boiler, or from the loft? If the boiler, how old do you think it is?

PigletJohn · 09/01/2014 15:50

I have looked at your previous thread and I bet 50p that the noise is coming from the ballcock filling up the cold water tank in the loft.

To check this, turn the boiler off at its timer and run a cold bath to the same level that you usually have a hot one.

PigletJohn · 09/01/2014 15:52

in which case

MILdesperandum · 09/01/2014 15:52

The boiler was installed in 2009. The cylinder is green. It's a roaring/water flowing sort of noise, the boiler is a condensing type in the garage, pretty sure it's not that. Couldn't rule out it being from the loft I'll have to pay more attention when I next have a bath!

when can I have my 50p?

MILdesperandum · 09/01/2014 16:07

Yes - I filled the bath with cold and there was that annoying noise! So nothing to do with the cylinder then, new ballcock for me and silent bath except for the kids

thanks Piglet John - love your work Grin
