Demolition order not noticed in searches

I have just bought a house and have found out that the 30 houses in the street opposite me are under an Initial Demolition Order and that the council intends to redevelop the area. These houses are bungalows at present and are 10m from our house.

This information was not in any of the searches carried out by our solicitor and we are very worried the demolition/building work/new development will have an impact on us and the value of our property.

Should we have been informed of this through searches by our solicitor?

We definitely wouldn't have bought the house if we had known.

No this would not be revealed on a Local Authority Search. You can probably find out the planning application number for the development on the council website and look at the plans etc.

In a standard search you can enquire about adjoining properties but otherwise you would make your own investigations. It may not be a bad thing depending on the devepment itself.

I'd try and find out more about the redevelopment plans. Might be a bit disruptive in the short term but maybe it will add value to your area.
