WWYD - approaching buyer re renting?

That's it really. Looking to move as we need a bigger place. Can't afford to buy for quite a few years, may have something in the pipeline re renting but don't want to pop all me eggs into one basket. So there's a house that's been empty for months in the village and its lovely. I've no idea why its not sold yet, but I saw it for sale in October so I've no idea why it hasn't sold.

Have been informed by another villager that the owners live in Spain now, and how about approaching them to ask about a long term let. Is this cheeky? Would you do it? If you had a unoccupied property would you think of doing this if it hadn't sold?

I would, they can only say no!

Good luck!
