two years ago it was £540, we did all our own packing. They were prompt, careful, courteous and efficient.

shop around though, we had quotes for four times that.

Underthemountain · 07/01/2014 13:05

wow, £540 would be great-can i ask who with?

we did a self hire - a company that had a depot in the south

so picked it up at north depot, dropped it at south depot

can't remember how much - but nothing near £540

I think driving the truch yourself is the cheapest way

odd bits of shit in your car too

CooEeeEldridge · 07/01/2014 13:08

Ours was 800 I think with packing too. Got 5 men for that (!) they came on fri and packed, then transported sat morning. Was Pickfords I think about 3 years ago, definitely recommend.

Use a company from the area you are moving to, on moving day they will be less likely to be careless in a rush, as they have a long journey ahead,

It's also a good way to start in a new community. £540 is amazingly cheap.

We moved ourselves last time but unfortunately for various reasons it just wouldn't work this time.
That is a good idea re getting someone from where we are going to, will check that out.

DelGirl · 07/01/2014 13:24

Custardo you do make chuckle Grin

Underthemountain · 07/01/2014 13:32

either packing or not. just wondered about a rough cost for such a long move, never done it before.

DelGirl · 07/01/2014 13:39

Pure guesstimate but id say 800 with, 600 without

DelGirl · 07/01/2014 13:40

That prob wont incude insurance though

DelGirl · 07/01/2014 13:43

Sorry factor in 8 hours driving too prob another 300. No help at all really but I would think it was around that

specialsubject · 07/01/2014 14:24

Simply Removals. Keep the cost down by not moving on a Friday and avoid school holidays.

Underthemountain · 07/01/2014 14:37

thanks , that helps.

We've just had quotes for moving 150 miles, also from a 3 bed house (although we do have a lot of books)

Quotes have come in from £1600 to £2300. That's with us doing packing ourselves too.

We're in the SE.

Underthemountain · 08/01/2014 15:36

Gosh, I just got a quote for 750 (and one for £1000)but it was a total guess about how many boxes we'd have! Getting another quote tomorrow from someone who will visit first to see what we've got....
