Feature wallpaper- not fashionable any more?

I am planning to decorate an upstairs bedroom and have three rolls ofwallpaper-I was going to do a single wall in it- is it still in vogue or are plain walls the way to go?

I still love feature walls don't care what anyone thinks, I have a new build and everything looked too clinical and boring before, now it feels all homely. If you like it go for it.

CrapBag · 01/01/2014 22:17

I'm hoping to move this year and I'll be doing feature walls. I don't care about if its still fashionable, my home is for me.

MmeLindor · 01/01/2014 23:18

I think it's a bit dated but you are living in the house not me. If you aren't intending to sell soon, do what you want.

MummytoMog · 02/01/2014 00:34

I love a feature wall :) I am clearly tasteless.

ImInLoveWithAGermanPornStar · 02/01/2014 09:37

People are put off feature walls because they were so overused on tv makeover shows, not always to great effect. In reality, I think they can look great. There are some beautiful papers that just don't work as an allover thing in an average sized house but can look amazing as a feature. I say go for it!

TheLeftovermonster · 02/01/2014 09:49

Depends on the wallpaper. Some are a work of art.

If you want to keep up with trends, avoid.
If it's just for you and you like it, go for it.

KrabbyPatty · 02/01/2014 12:23

Feature walls are very dated now, yes.

But it's upstairs so it won't matter Grin

specialsubject · 02/01/2014 15:18

very dated and not to everyone's taste.

but YOU live there, paint it in purple stripes if you want!

JohnnyBarthes · 02/01/2014 15:25

In the nicest possible way, who cares?

It's not like it's irreversible.

Mabelandrose · 02/01/2014 16:15

Yes. But still the right paper and the right wall could look great

LibraryBook · 02/01/2014 20:41

Depends on the wallpaper.

timidviper · 02/01/2014 20:43

Who says what is ok or not? It is your house, do it how you want

LittleTulip · 02/01/2014 20:47

I think they're a bit dated too but go for it if you like it!

DIddled · 02/01/2014 22:22

It's the Laura Ashley kimono paper- very sark grey with a gold pattern, I like it so sod it I will try it. Thanks for your opinions.

Sounds lovely. I do love a feature wall, just done our lounge with a stunning vintage pattern, why are people saying its dated?! Am I missing something?

DIddled · 06/01/2014 22:21

I am using Dulux nutmeg white on the other walls- to warm it up a bit, but now concerned that having a dark colour on the far wall might shrink the room, which isn't that big anyway!!

Link to paper? [nosy]

I have feature walls although mumsnet decree this bad. I am in the process of redecorating but some feature walls are staying. I love paper and hate too much painted plaster. I also don't like things hung on walls which in any case are purely a matter of taste & will date along with everything in your house.

I still think that if you have a paper you love & it would overwhelm in a whole room then go for it. It's more important IMO to keep the room light so be careful what you go for in a smaller room.

I posted the same topic recently but didn't get much response and had already decided to keep feature wall in one room but circumstances meant I had to do the whole adjoining room. Decorator arrives tomorrow. I hope it's going to look good!

PrimalLass · 07/01/2014 13:40

I like them in my house, and don't care if the wisdom of Mumsnet says everything should be greige.

AngryFeet · 07/01/2014 13:47

I like them and dont give a shit if they are out of fashion. I have to look at it every day so will choose what I like! I wouldn't do it in every room but I like my house to he very different all over. My lounge is going to have this paper with mauve-grey for the other walls. I saw it snd liked it so that is what I am using!
