what to do re diy

a few years ago we moved to a new house.
I like the house we chose but he simply is not doing any diy to maintain it.it is 1960's build.
he gets shirty with me everytime I mention diy or maintenance projects.
It's really starting to piss me off because I am a sahm and have to put up with it but cannot physically do it myself.
WHAT TO DO as it's not going to increase property value leaving things
money is not an issue btw
any ideas what I can do to is anyone else's dh like this or am I just too much of a perfectionist?....

Is there a reason you can't do some of it yourself?
Or if money is no object, could you pay someone else to do it?

I'd look into doing some of it yourself if you are at home and could fit it around your children (or get them involved if it is stuff like wallpaper stripping or grouting!)

i have a physical illness that limits alot of diy I could do or they'd be no tension re diy
painting would be ok
I have mentioned about a handy man a while ago but even that I got a grunt.
I love him to bits just this that driving me crazy :/

Is he good at DIY and likes doing it, or were you (both) just hoping that he was going to make a start with this house? Maybe he realised he'd bitten off more than he could chew if it needs serious work?

I'd sit him down and point out the worst thing that needs doing, then talk through how it can be achieved in a realistic timescale - diy, maybe with your help, or getting someone in to do it. There's no reason you should have to live in a house that isn't being properly looked after, if there is money to do it.

Just tell him you're getting a tradesman in to do the jobs.

he is good at it when he gets down to it. we did alot in our old house. I think as you say there either needs to be some compromising or I will have to be like my mil and bossy!!! :/

If I was in your position, I would pick the most difficult room and get a handyman in to do that room. Maybe seeing that room finished will spur him on to do another room.
