I am trying to arrange a slightly complicated knock through (taking out a corner chimney & load bearing wall). Every builder I get round seems to have a different idea as to how it should be done - none of them seem to want to quote for the work as specified by the structural engineer I forked out £££ for. I think the engineer has gone for the belt & braces type approach and the two builders both want to simplify the job and sneer at the OTT nature of engineers, plans, councils etc. Argh.
