There isn't such a thing as a naice flush ceiling lampshade is there?

(or semi-flush)

We only have 8ft high ceilings and the builder is trying to convince us to get spot lights in the living room. I really don't like them. Has anyone seen any decent flush ones or are they all clinical looking domes of glass?

Have wall lights instead?

Try Ikea - we have a couple of pleated fabric uplighters which sit flush against our low cottage ceilings.

You can get nice lights which don't drop down too far. We have an art-deco style chandelier which is probably only about 6 inches from the ceiling in total as it is wide but very flat.

Or I have seen metal ceiling lights which are flat with arms coming off them. Personally I wouldn't have spots in a login room- our previous house was full of them, it looks awful when a bulb goes and it just looked harsh even when dimmed

Login room? Living room!

chippy - thanks for the suggestion but I've discounted wall lights as I think they are a bit like radiators - they take up room on the wall and get in the way.

aGnother - your squashed art deco light sounds interesting - do you have a link to it?

What kind of thing do you like.?

EeyoreIsh · 20/12/2013 13:58

I second the ikea suggestion, we've fitted this and it looks lovely

I like big dangly things as I tend to have very little in the way of pattern/curtains etc and have no features (period ones)
Im delighted ive found a minimal type flush chandelier christaly type thing in homebase. Its only for the porch but very nice. John lewis have a fab selection.

The IKEA one is quite nice. In an ideal world I'd have a higher ceiling so that I could have a nice big structured ball shaped type thing. I like the Scandinavian habit of running a long flex from the pendant and affixing the lamp over a table of something and I suppose I could do that into the corner of the room.
