Anyone have any experience they'd like to share? Really don't want to spend loads on something so unexciting!!

Do you mean track or pole?

Yes we have this exact thing.

I started with a heavy posh metal pole with brackets thinking it would take the curtain weight better; it did not. It fell off. (crappy walls - Victorian house - and long brackets meant the weight was further from the wall iyswim)

Got a fineline track rom Paul Simon/ebay and fitted that to the wooden frame - it's perfect. Smooth and beautifully efficient. Holds heavy brocade wool interlined curtains that are 9ft long.

Close to the frame, is your best bet.

Yes track. That sounds like exactly what I need IHeardMummy, there's hardly any space between the coving and the top of the architrave on the window frame so I just need a white track to attach to the frame that will blend in and not shout 'curtain track/pole' and hold up our 9ft interlined curtains. Went to JL and got a quote from Swish and nearly fell on the floor! Thank you, off to investigate now...

We have Harrison Drape tracks. www.terrysfabrics.co.uk/cat/curtain-tracks/harrison-drape/ They were here when we moved in 8 years ago, and have taken our floor length, heavy fabric curtains which are also fully lined with blackout lining, no problem. God knows how old they must be - they're very well made. Ours are just 2 lengths joined in the middle with the joining bits.
