Help, blocked sink

My 3 yo seems to have raised the metal plug thing in the handbasin shoved his toothbrush down and jammed it down again. I now can't raise the sodding thing so sink is useless. Plus it's a rented house so need to sort ASAP. Any ideas???? I tried to lever it up with the tip of a sharp knife but no joy.

Try taking off piping below the plug hole, see if you can reach it from there...

I would except just moved to uk, and have no tools. Also basin on a pedestal arrangement so could be tricky?

is this a plug which is operated by a push-down rod on the tap, or a turning knob on the overflow?

PigletJohn · 16/12/2013 14:12

have you got some blu-tak?

cestlavielife · 16/12/2013 14:20

when this happened with mine i kept at it with knife until gradually eventually it came up...
then removed it completely

(you can get a universal plug thing if you want to keep a plug there )

You should be able to turn it by hand...
