Problems with building work a year after it was completed

We had some building work done last year. One company took responsibility for the whole project, and undertook it with a mix of their own staff and contractors for other trades.

The downstairs toilet that they fitted (wall hung) has just come away from the wall. The person who sat on it isn't unusually heavy at all. Is this still the builder's responsibility a year after finishing work? It seems to me that the fixtures used to fasten it aren't fit for purpose...would you expect the builder to take responsibility for fixing it after that sort of time or not?

Yes, it should still be under defects. Do you have any paperwork for the works from the builders or a contract?

Check all that first and then write to the builders to offer them the chance to make good within a reasonable timescale

If you don't get a satisfactory response, get two other quotes for the repairs and send them to your original builder notifying him that you will appoint someone else to do the repairs and then bill the original builders for the works.
