£1,200 quote from home removal in London - good price?

Hi, I'm looking for a home removal company that will pack all mum's belongings as she downsizing from her 3 bed house (in Norbury) to 2bed house (in Bromley). I got one quote from a company that was £1,200 inc VAT which I thought was too much. (Our budget would stretch to about half of that)

Although it's a 3 bed house she doesn't actually have many belongings apart from the usual (bed, tv, sofa, dining table 4 chairs, boxes of clothes, plates, cutlet mugs etc. she won't be taking any white goods with her or wardrobes or any garden equipment) Does £1200 sound about right or are we being ripped off?! Any recommendations for removal companies would be greatly appreciated.

with packing, that is excellent. They are liable for all the stuff which they pack.

if you only have £600 you can get it moved for less than that, but you will need to pack. Start looking on freecycle for packing boxes and materials.

That sounds about right for the nationals, shocking isn't it? I did this exactly a year ago and got quotes from all the big names and was floored!

I was watching the pickfords documentary on tv at the time and told the 'account manager' I'd seen a family move to the Dordoigne for less than I was quoted!

We ended up using Zebra movers, who are based in Glasgow (where I am) but they also have a base in London.

I was amazed by their quote, and the team were really helpful from the first phone call until the move day. ( I am aware I sound like an advert!)

Honestly pinkhat1 they wrapped our poxy Ikea furniture as though they were precious antiques!

Well we are trying to exchange at the moment to move on the 20th December - to be fair it's a complicated move but all quotes are multiples of the one you have and the cheapest now has no slots left...

I would shop around more. We moved a 2 bed flat to a 4 bed house with packing for 770 inc vat. That was with rainbow smiles local se London company and they were great. Like your mum we didn't have white goods or wardrobes.

We've just been quoted a similar price to pack up what is left of my mums belonging including some very delicate valuable ornaments store it for up to four weeks and then bring them over 170 miles to a house with literally no parking for anything bigger than a family salon. I know it's expensive but it's completely stress free so worth every penny IMO.
I don't know why your moving your mums belonging but I found going through my mums belongings very stressful lots of it is private, lots nostalgic sentimental and for me very sad it's much easier to let someone else do it for you I will then unpack it in my own time/home.

We paid £1,600 for full pack, clean and move on a 4 bed. There were only two of us at the time so we didn't have much. DH's company paid most of it luckily and as I was heavily pregnant, working full time and he was abroad at the time it didn't seem so bad!

This time we paid £550 with a national for just the move with more things. We did the packing and cleaning ourselves this time though.

I think £1,200 is quote good.

You could try www.anyvan.com for some more quotes, they seem to get a good range

Thanks for everyone for their recommendations. Most I ended up contacting we're either too expensive or the booking was just too late notice. So In the end we used mms company based in Peckham called Roberts &Dennys who were great, really helpful & efficient and half the price of the original quote I first got. Would highly recommend them!

Glad it all went well, we're doing the same for my mother at the moment. Just had a quote for £750, which I didn't think was bad!
