We have black slate from Mandarin Stone in our contemporary diner/ kitchen extension. We have full length bifolds and it is the same level throughout. Looks lovely and easy care too as long as it is properly sealed. Yes wood outside will get slippy so it will need cleaning.

just been reading horror stories about decking, am going to have to try to dissuade dh somehow

but can't think how a stone patio would work if we want a flat walk thru from dining to garden
any wise ideas?

Will scour my reading list once DS in bed but I have same idea as your DH and found a decking timber that has a non slip surface engrained into it...only seen online so cant speak from experience...was going to ask them for a sample when time comes.
