Living through building work?

We're extending upstairs & downstairs at the moment and arggghhhh! The dust. The mess. The noise. The chaos of everything being in the wrong places!
It was supposed to be finished by Christmas. It won't be. Thankfully we're going away. But no decorations up, and I'm totally unprepared for Christmas as all I can think about is building stuff.
It's driving me mad.
My mantra at the moment is 'it will be worth it in the end.'

Anyone else?

Yes, we did a whole house renovation, over several years... When the children were young. It is a never again experience!!
However, for us, it meant that everything was paid for as we went along... Which meant the mirage did not need to be extended... And indeed now mortgage paid off 5 years early!!
The dust does disappear quickly thought .. And you are right... It is with it in the end!

Mirage = mortgage

I have the same mantra.
Ours is in stages and the current chaos will be finished for Christmas and we'll have a lovely new kitchen (we will, we will), at least the heating & water are in and bar a few minor niggles (being sorted tomorrow) they are working.
Tiles started this morning, but had to re-screed part of the fantastically wonky floor so they will have to finish that on Monday.
Kitchen goes in next week (fingers crossed)
Bathroom windows went in without any fuss just lots of sawdust. The rest are going in, in January. The back door is going in on the week before Christmas. Then that's it for this year and we'll start back up the first week of January.
I am sick of brick dust, plaster dust, saw dust.... Just dust and workmen really.

Wonkylegs if I could copy & paste your last sentence on my phone I would!
We are due to have new hearing sometime this or next week, which will mean a few days with no heating, which with half the roof off will be interesting!
I am tired of people in my house. And the noise. And the dust.

We did the heating off last week with no windows.... I suggest wearing fleece layers, lots of them + tights under trousers.

It's hell isn't it- we are through the build but the house is a shit tip and no kitchen- well not a proper one. We are 9 weeks in and I have had enough!!!!
