How long to expect between solicitor receiving paperwork and exchanging contracts?

Just looking for a rough estimate......

We've been playing the waiting game for nearly 3 months (long story) but our solicitor finally received all the paperwork from the seller's solicitor a week ago on Friday. He has completed all his checks, surveys are done, all is fine. DP has been trying to get hold of him to find out what's going on but no joy yet.

So just to keep my brain occupied - any thoughts about how long this next stage might take? And any possibility that we could exchange by Xmas? Thanks

watching with interest Lotta - we're in same situation. Was told that we were likely to exchange last Fri or today but it's all gone quiet. Everything is packed in boxes ready to move on Friday and I'm starting to get more than a little stressed now!

Oh good luck eric - it's a nerve-shredding business! Will be so unbelievably relieved when it's all done. So the next step will definitely be exchanging? It's just a case of when?

should be.... so long as funds are in order but also depends on the rest of the chain - they could have bugger all in order - that's the bit that's worse than a rogue conveyancer!

If you cant get hold of your solicitor see if he has an assistant - they are often the ones that do the work and are easier to get hold of.

I am thinking very positive thoughts for us both for something to happen today!

No chain and funds most definitely in order! Crossing everything for us both Smile

not liking a solicitor that you can't get hold of! Phone several times a day and keep nagging. You have two weeks if you want exchange before Xmas, after that they all spend all their time at parties.

never let it go quiet, be a pain. You are paying them.

Is there any way you can go in and see your solicitor.
Once all my paper work had come through my solicitor was being slow (ori thought was being slow even though it was 5 weeks from going on the market and me getting the keys) so I arranged a meeting meant we were able to quicken the process up by a week as we were able to sit and go through paper work instead of things being posted out the waiting till I returned them!

any news Lotta? We still haven't exchanged but we have got to the bottom of why - not that it helps at all but at least we know it's not us or our solicitor holding things up!

Have you signed the contract yet ?
