Piglet John I need you again! Thermostatic shower advice please x

We have just had a Tavistock thermostatic shower fitted(kinetic brand) with the bar controls. It's in the downstairs shower room- we have just had a 937 Vailliant Eco warm combi boiler fitted. No matter how much we move the control towards hot or cold it stays the same warmish temperature, but doesn't get colder or hotter. I phoned Tavistock and they asked if the shower was calibrated on installation. All I am getting from the plumber is 'some showers are just like that' and it might be faulty. I am beyond p@@sed off to be honest as we are reliant on it whilst upstairs is renovated. PJ what do you think- I value your opinion!!

I have heard of this calibration problem before but not experienced it. More often a shower is consistently too hot or too cold and will not maintain a comfortable temperature. This is usually because it is supplied with e.g. low-pressure hot and high-pressure cold, or has been fitted upside-down.

I gather your plumber disclaims responsbility for the mixer, so presumably he did not supply it, you bought it yourself, is that right?

If he fitted it, he is responsible for fitting it correctly and in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, so get hold of a copy and see what they say about calibration.

While looking at the instructions, see if this model has a temperature-limiting button or something as an anti-scald feature.

I am especially fond of Aqualisa showers, but they are not very cheap.

I bought it- I had him phone the factory today. They are sending a new part. I am a bit torn as to whether he is wrong or the shower is crap. I got it for £220 in Costco but the RRP is nearly £500.
At least it is warmer for now but. I am still not happy:(

I'm having exactly the same problem with this shower. I too purchased it in Costco and my plumber has gone off the grid an will not return to the fit the new part. When I called the factory they offered to send a new part straight away which kind of suggests that they are aware there is a problem with this model.

I was going to make an attempt to fit the new cartridge myself but cannot find the right size allen key. I have a thousand allen keys. Is there a special set that plumbers use? Any help or advice would be really helpful.

What country are you, and where was the shower made?

USA might use Imperial (inch) sizes.

RoW uses Metric.

I'm in Uk and I called the sales office in Bath and they sent me the new cartridge and instructions on how to fit.

and none of your Allen keys fit? Most likely it will be metric.

Might it be a Torx head (splined)? If you ask the makers, I'm sure they will know. They sound very co-operative.
