tiling costs - seem very high

to lay slate i am being quoted £46 psqm. that sounds ridiculously high to me or am i being naive?

I think it's a bit high, bloke said it would take him a day and would cost me 1.5k...

That sounds very expensive. Get some more quotes! Will they need to put up scaffolding? Does that include VAT?

Had a very small job done to patch a hole where a flue had been removed and that cost £300, took them less than 2 hours, which included a trip to the shop to fetch the tiles as they'd 'forgotten' them. Being expensive is not a sign of great skill.
